Osu is often called a “hotchpotch shopping street” because of its eclectic mix!

As mentioned earlier, Osu Shopping Street is formed by eight main avenues such as “Osu Hondori” and “Monzenmachi Street.”
You might assume each street feels different—but surprisingly, they all carry the same retro charm.

This nostalgic, retro-modern townscape has a cinematic vibe that makes you feel as if you’ve stepped back in time.
No matter which street you choose, the atmosphere is consistently rich with character, creating a setting that feels straight out of a movie.

A shoot here offers couples a sense of calm and timeless elegance—perfect for kimono or modern attire alike.

Beyond the main avenues, Osu’s back alleys hold endless hidden treasures.

For example, this shot was taken in front of Tomoshibi Apartment, a café and general store renovated from an old izakaya. Its neon sign and retro façade create a uniquely vintage backdrop.

Though less flashy than the main street, these quiet corners offer unmatched classical charm, perfect for atmospheric, one-of-a-kind photos.

So far, you’ve seen the retro side of Osu—but there’s another essential element: its modern spirit.

Osu once faced decline due to the rise of neighboring downtown areas like Sakae and Nishiki. To survive, it embraced subculture and youth trends—welcoming card shops, game stores, concept cafés, and international influences.

One of the biggest concerns with outdoor shoots is rain. But at Osu, most areas are covered with arcades, meaning you can shoot worry-free, rain or shine.

In summer, the arcades also provide shade from the harsh sun—another big plus.
