The Charm of Dōdan-tei, a Hidden Gem for Pre-wedding Photos in Kimono & Western Attire

A secret, almost too-hidden location.

Secret one-house hideaway.

Best 6 Photo Spots at Dōdan-tei

Built in 1723 (Kyōhō 8).
That’s 14 eras before the Heisei period—its history is truly remarkable.

Originally located in Sakashita Village, Yoshiki District, Gifu Prefecture (today’s Hida City), it was relocated to present-day Owariasahi City (near Moriyama Ward).
Close to central Nagoya, it’s an easy-to-access location.

Compared to major kimono pre-wedding photo spots such as Tokugawa Garden, Nagoya Castle, or Shirotori Garden, Dōdan-tei is still relatively unknown.
But among the Wedding Avenue team, it’s called a “hidden gem”—a place where you can capture photos just as stunning as those at the major spots.

The garden, named after the dōdantsutsuji (Enkianthus), is one of the highlights.
Spring brings delicate white blossoms, while autumn transforms the garden with fiery red foliage.
But Dōdan-tei is equally beautiful in summer and winter.

Inside, it feels like a private home—you can shoot indoors in a cozy, lived-in atmosphere, or step into the homey garden outside.
With plenty of photo spots, minimal movement, and the variety of both indoor and outdoor settings, you’ll get a wide range of shots with ease.

In a Small One-House Residence

Heartwarming.

Gentle and nostalgic, with a warmth that makes you want to wave and call out, “Heeey!”
These story-filled photos are often born from the second floor of this little home.
